Happy 7th Birthday, WithinMyWorld.org!

Today is seven years to the day since I bought my domain name, my first (and hopefully only, given the current status of my pocketbook). In the winter of 2004, I was in the midst of college finals and desperately wanted to do something for myself, and I had been thinking for months about buying my own domain name at last.

So, on my birthday, December 8th, 2004, in between preparing for the huge whompin’ exam I had that night and eating birthday cake left over from the previous night’s party, I registered withinmyworld.org at GoDaddy for ~$10/year, and bought $4.95/month hosting over at SurpassHosting. Then I began the process of transferring all my files over from my $8.95/month Tripod account. The whole registering/hosting service thing took about 3 or 4 hours to complete; I wisely studied for my exam afterwards, and waited on changing all the files over until after the LOL-final was over.

The first site that I had on the main domain was mainly a portal and small personal-site-ish content, and its only “daughter” site was my Yu-Gi-Oh! site, now defunct. Now, 7 years later, WMW.org has grown, changed, and had many more little ones to gather under its wings. …Hard to imagine how it will have changed in 7 more years!

Happy birthday, WithinMyWorld.org, you sweet old friend. Thanks for containing my blathering all these years. May there be many more blathery years to come!

Thinking of Making a WMW.org Radio

Mostly inspired by the radio at Fenali.net, I’ve been thinking about making my own radio for WithinMyWorld.org, since I love music very much and I have a wide and eclectic taste in music.

Not really sure how to go about it, though. I did find a cool site called Blip.fm, which makes your own Internet radio, so I might try that out in the next couple of days. If that doesn’t work out like I think it should…well, Google and Bing might direct me towards some answers. ^_^

Uh-Oh…Computer Issues

Updates on WithinMyWorld.org and its daughter sites may be a bit sparser than I had hoped, due to an apparent hard drive failure on my poor little Asus laptop. (It has been through a lot in the past few months… :c ) I shut it down within moments of its first “click-click, click-click” noise, and after a couple of system-suggested restarts, it told me to “Select boot device” upon startup. Not sure what that means except hard drive failure.

I am hopeful that at least my data can be recovered–I have a LOT of work and a lot of history on my laptop that cannot be replaced. But I know God has this under control. 🙂

MASSIVE Fanlist Update

Um, yeah. Captivations, my fanlisting collective, has about 14 katrillionzillion new joined fanlistings on it. My EYEEEEEEEEZZZZZ, they are bloodshot from all the CODINGGGGGGGGgggggggggguh.

I’m still not happy with how some of the fanlisting categories are displaying, but as it’s nearly 12:30 AM and I have been awake since 7:50 this morning, I am putting myself into much-needed Sleep Mode. Just thought I’d update again ^_^

Fanlist Cleanup, Part 1 and Links List Cleanup

Today, while hiding from the scary retail world of Black Friday, I went through all my joined fanlistings and noted the dead or moved ones. I also found about 10,000 more that I want to join on TFL.org. X_x Oh well, that’s what FLs are for–feeding our site-joining addiction. XD

Anyhow, now that I’ve noted all this stuff, I’m going to spend some time (maybe now, maybe later) getting rid of the dead links and putting up new links. Lot of work, but I think it’ll be worth it, since I hadn’t done jack squat with the joined FLs list in…um… *checks last date* Geez. Okay. Yeah. XD

ALSO: I did EVEN MORE fixing on the Links list. A little golden star icon was added to several sites’ descriptions, designating each as a “Robin-Recommended” site. Check those out, as well as some of the other new sites I added to the list!

New Link Buttons and Favicon

After several months of having no inspiration whatsoever in making link buttons, I’ve made several in various new sizes (100 x 35 and 100 x 50 as well as the more traditional 88 x 31 size). WOOT! This is a great feat coming from someone who hates making itty-bitty images. LOL! Check out the buttons on my Affiliate? page.

Also in the itty-bitty images category–I made and uploaded a new favicon for the site to match better with the current layout. Y’all might still see the little blue gear symbol for a while, but I promise there’s a little green leaf in there now. 🙂 Many thanks to this FavIcon generator at DynamicDrive.com for helping me out! (Never can figure out how to make a .ico in Photoshop…LOL)

Links Got Tidied Up

Check out the improved WMW.org Links page here! I went through all the links (physically clicking and evaluating each one), and edited/deleted as necessary. Some sites went away and some were added, but ALL are working links now. WOOT! (And all that done over dial-up, too. Never would have believe 50kbps could do so much.)

Going to keep my eye out for more links to add in the days to come…keep checking back for updates to my huge epic Links list. XD

Welcome Wild-Seven.org and Blizzara.org!

Wild-Seven.org is WMW.org’s newest affiliate–welcome to a fellow site beginning with W! 😀 Ava’s domain collective is chock-full of sites to interest fans of Sailor Moon, the Final Fantasy game series, and J-pop–plus, a very full docket of upcoming sites and projects that puts mine to shame. 😛

Also, I’ve added one new link-exchange–Blizzara.org, home to more in-depth Final Fantasy tributes than you can Omnislash at. Stefi has done an amazing job of putting together sites that are content-rich and sparkly, too.

Enjoy visiting these two great sites–I know I have! 🙂 And YAY for us webdesigners sticking together 🙂
