(It has been through a lot in the past few months&#8230; :c )  I shut it down within moments of its first &#8220;click-click, click-click&#8221; noise, and after a couple of system-suggested restarts, it told me to &#8220;Select boot device&#8221; upon startup.  Not sure what that means except hard drive failure.<\/p>\n<p>I am hopeful that at least my data can be recovered&#8211;I have a LOT of work and a lot of history on my laptop that cannot be replaced.
