New Site: Compassion!

As part of the Amassment One-Pager Event on Discord, I finally got off my webdesign butt and created a new site:

Compassion

“Darmok,” episode from Star Trek: The Next Generation

This is my absolute favorite Star Trek episode, and I’ve had this site on the back burner literally since 2015–so glad for this event to help push me to make it! I hope you enjoy learning some more about this episode, and if you love TNG and have a site, definitely contact me about affiliation or link-exchange!

The Year Ahead for WMW.oRG

Phew, can you believe it’s already 2020?! Lots of things have been happening IRL, but I did want y’all to know I’ve got some great stuff planned for this year:

  • January 2020: Rework my two GIF-heavy advice sites, Declutter and Unspend
  • February 2020: Revamp and relaunch my gaming site, The Gamer’s Repose
  • March 2020: Update my music site, Mellifluous
  • April 2020: Launch of my Seto Kaiba fansite, tentatively called Progress
  • May 2020: Rework and update my faith site, Living Words
  • June-August 2020: Time off, because a wedding and honeymoon could be happening! :D!
  • September 2020: Resume work on my Eighth Doctor fansite, Absentia
  • October 2020: Rework and relaunch my ASMR site, Unwind
  • November 2020: Resume work on my Sound of Music fansite, Something Good
  • December 2020: Perhaps the launch of a fun new project that’s currently in development, if time permits!

YAY I might actually get most of this done this year! Message me and let me know what you’re working on this year 😀

New Site: The Nostalgia Project!

FINALLY! WOOHOO!

the nostalgia project

This is the thing I’ve sortakindanot been working on since…March? April? I don’t even know, but I finally finished it! Yay for work computers and plenty of downtime to put the finishing touches on it! (Using my personal computer has become a bit of a beast, and I’ve learned that I am not 20 anymore and thus cannot hunch over a laptop in bed for hours on end without paying for it later. Oops xD)

This site is a flashback to good memories and good times for me, remembering the style of late 90s/early 00s fansite designs and content, using new tools and resources to recreate the old aesthetic, and revisiting a very important part of my fandom life. (I even have a splash page! So early 2000s! So legit!! LOL)

I hope this site is as fun for you to visit and read as it was for me to create–I sure relearned and remembered a lot, and reconnected with a part of myself I hadn’t realized had faded into the background. Let me know what you think, and I hope it inspires you!

Updates, Updates Everywhere!

OKAY, so it’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted anything! Let me catch you up on everything that’s happened within my world:

SITE UPDATES

First, there’s a new site in town here: The Other Slipper, shedding new light on Disney’s 1950 adaptation of Cinderella. It was created for the One Page One Month marathon over at Amassment. I am ridiculously proud of this site, since it covers an unusual topic that’s been very close to my heart since I was a child. It is all on one page, so all you have to do is scroll to enjoy the content. Let me know what you think about this new site in the comments on this post, or in the “guestbook” (click “Guestbook” at the top right of this page).

Second, I’ve got a couple of ongoing projects I’m doing–Turning Toward Day is my quasi-blog with some positive thoughts/encouragement, frank talk about faith, and honest life struggles, etc. Also, over on my Instagram page, I started making ASMR content this summer, and I’m now doing videos with serialized short stories on there! Check ’em out when you get a chance–this has been a LOT of fun to do and people seem to enjoy the stories so far.

Third, I hope to finish a couple of sites I’m still working on. I still have lots of work to do on my Seto Kaiba fansite, and I’m also participating in a Sailor Moon marathon, with a planned site about Mamoru Chiba. Who knows whether I’ll actually have brain energy/stop procrastinating long enough to finish both of these, but I’d like to!

LIFE UPDATES

First, I had a very busy summer health-wise. In the space of a month (May 25th-June 25th), I traveled out of state to an awesome gynecologist, discovered I had a 7cm mass in my left ovary and “heterogeneous” tissue in my uterus, and had laparoscopic surgery and a D&C to remove the mass and the weird tissue. Thankfully, nothing was cancerous (that was the big worry, and was why we had to move so fast), but I did lose my left ovary in the process, since the mass turned out to be a giant mucous cyst that pretty much ate all the normal ovarian tissue. (I had no idea cysts could eat ovaries, but apparently they can!) My surgery was June 25th, and it took a full six weeks to recover completely because one of my stitches busted, but it was nothing serious. I’m doing a lot better now and not having nearly any of the symptoms I suffered with for four and a half years, though there may be some trouble ahead regarding hormone levels. Hoping everything normalizes out!

Second, I never posted about this on my domain when it happened and I’m not sure why, but I got engaged!! It happened on December 4th, 2017–the proposal was sweet and simple, just us, no fanfare, just like my awesome fiance. I honestly had no idea he was going to do it, and apparently he’d been planning and saving for it with his mom’s help for about 4 months. We haven’t set a date yet due to all the health weirdness and uncertainty, but now that I’m recovered and actually working (!), hopefully we can plan on a date soon. :D!!

Third, I started professional voice lessons in November of last year, and my voice teacher thinks I have a lot to work with and that it could take me to the big time. It’s taking a while to train out all the bad habits and actually free my voice, but from what I’ve done so far, I can say I’m super excited by the possibilities!

TL;DR

In chronological order since fall of last year, I made a blog, started professional voice lessons, got engaged, started working on a couple of site ideas, had major surgery, and created one new site! Whew, that’s a lot! LOL!

New Site: Unwind!

Unwind, an ASMR information site
Unwind
an ASMR information site

I made a new site! And in other news, pigs are growing wings and taking to the skies!!

This site covers the pleasant psycho-physical phenomenon of ASMR. There is a general info page plus plenty of curated pages of videos, sorted by type to help folks explore and appreciate this pastime.

I’ve been enjoying and benefiting from ASMR for a few years now–it helps with relaxation, boredom, and sleep, all things I definitely need help with (LOL). My hope is that my site will help explain it better and help others discover their favorite ASMR “triggers.”

(Many many thanks to dubiousdisc for helping me troubleshoot the design–we finally got it readable and pretty! :D)

New Site: Tomorrow’s Calling!

Tomorrow’s Calling
about the world of Animal Crossing

This site was a HUGE challenge for me to accomplish, especially with all the heartache of my mother’s worsening illness over the last year, culminating in her passing in April. I honestly didn’t know if I’d ever feel like making anything creative ever again. I also struggled with HOW to do this site; it kept suffering from “wiki-itis” as I simply retyped horrible boring lists of basic info I found in my research. I often felt trapped somewhere between “informing viewers ABOUT the world” and “using the info to ANALYZE the world.”

Thus, this little site would not be possible without the aid of these fine folks:

With their help, I was finally able to break out of “wiki-itis” and create a fitting tribute to the world of Animal Crossing, with full-bodied descriptions, analyses, and even the use of music in unexpected ways. It blossomed nearly overnight, from an embarrassment to something approaching a magnum opus. It’s not just a site about Animal Crossing’s world anymore, but a site about our OWN world, too, by extension…I’m still amazed that any of this came out of my head when my brain cells have been so scattered! But as with most of my sites, this was truly a group effort and I’m so happy I tried this. ♥ ♥ ♥

New Site: Mellifluous!

Mellifluous
a music tributes site

I vastly expanded my old “WMW.org Radio” site to become Mellifluous, a music tributes site featuring “new to me” songs, all time top favorite tracks, and five 20-song Youtube playlists assembled according to various themes. It’s got plenty of room for expansion as I add more favorite songs and create new playlists, but for now, enjoy what I have uploaded so far!

New Site: Living Words!

Living Words
6 Biblical selections that guide my faith practice

This is a site that has been in the works for a really long time! Living Words is a one-page-wonder showcasing most if not all of my favorite Bible verses and/or passages. (It’s also technically a revamp of my old, unnamed faith site, which is now offline.)

Along with the Bible verses, I’ve included context for each selection, and I added 4 handy informational links at the bottom of the page as well. Also, if you hover over each of the book/chapter/verse notations, a tooltip will appear detailing what each selection means to me.

I hope this will be a much better Christian resource than what I had before, and in the future I hope to add more verses to it as well. Check it out and let me know what you think!

New Site: Counterbalance!

CounterbalanceJessie & James

Team Rocket’s Blasting Off Again–onto my domain! This is my not-so-small tribute to a pair of anime characters I’ve adored since I was thirteen. <3

I intend the site to serve not only as an introduction to Jessie & James, but also as an introduction to the entire show for those who haven’t seen the first couple of seasons in a while. (I chose to use the Kanto and Orange Islands seasons as my sole basis for this site, because I feel that those two seasons had the best writing and character development for my favorite characters.)

I hope you enjoy reading the articles as much as I’ve enjoyed writing and compiling them!! 😀

New Site: Good Ol’ Ev!

Good Ol’ Ev!
a dedication to Evinrude the dragonfly from Disney’s The Rescuers

Never thought a little bug could be heroic? Well, Evinrude will prove how tough and necessary even the smallest of dragonflies can be! Check out my site about his role in The Rescuers and find out all there is to know! 🙂
