Merry After-Christmas!

Since I was very busy celebrating Christmas yesterday, I will take today, the typical “ho-hum-back-to-normal-life” day, to wish you all a very merry After-Christmas.

I have been spending today recovering from the craziness of the holidays–I’ve felt like I’ve been a week behind on everything, shopping, wrapping, cleaning, cooking, the whole lot. This time next week, I should be ready for Christmas. LOL But I still had a fantastic Christmas even without everything wrapped just so or primped just so. It was full of family and friends of all sorts.

Hope you all are doing well and recovering from your own holiday celebrations 😉 May we all keep thinking of each other as “people we want to make happy” rather than “people who need to get out of our way”.

Maintaining Course

With the bulk of my files far away and possibly unrecoverable, I can’t do much on my site, but there isn’t much TO do. But never fear! I’m keeping up with as much as I can, and I plan to keep adding things as necessary.

One of the projects I’ll be working on in the background is reformatting the College Knowledge section of my main site–the text, I have realized, looks a bit imposing on the screen, so I want to break it up a little more to make it look more readable and interesting.

Meanwhile, my daughter sites don’t need a whole lot of updating at the moment–at least, to my eye. Check out my other sites and see if you’d like anything else to be added!

Happy 7th Birthday, WithinMyWorld.org!

Today is seven years to the day since I bought my domain name, my first (and hopefully only, given the current status of my pocketbook). In the winter of 2004, I was in the midst of college finals and desperately wanted to do something for myself, and I had been thinking for months about buying my own domain name at last.

So, on my birthday, December 8th, 2004, in between preparing for the huge whompin’ exam I had that night and eating birthday cake left over from the previous night’s party, I registered withinmyworld.org at GoDaddy for ~$10/year, and bought $4.95/month hosting over at SurpassHosting. Then I began the process of transferring all my files over from my $8.95/month Tripod account. The whole registering/hosting service thing took about 3 or 4 hours to complete; I wisely studied for my exam afterwards, and waited on changing all the files over until after the LOL-final was over.

The first site that I had on the main domain was mainly a portal and small personal-site-ish content, and its only “daughter” site was my Yu-Gi-Oh! site, now defunct. Now, 7 years later, WMW.org has grown, changed, and had many more little ones to gather under its wings. …Hard to imagine how it will have changed in 7 more years!

Happy birthday, WithinMyWorld.org, you sweet old friend. Thanks for containing my blathering all these years. May there be many more blathery years to come!

Uh-Oh…Computer Issues

Updates on WithinMyWorld.org and its daughter sites may be a bit sparser than I had hoped, due to an apparent hard drive failure on my poor little Asus laptop. (It has been through a lot in the past few months… :c ) I shut it down within moments of its first “click-click, click-click” noise, and after a couple of system-suggested restarts, it told me to “Select boot device” upon startup. Not sure what that means except hard drive failure.

I am hopeful that at least my data can be recovered–I have a LOT of work and a lot of history on my laptop that cannot be replaced. But I know God has this under control. 🙂
