Yahooooooo New Computerrrrr

Yep, I has a new computer. 🙂 And her name is “Jo”. Let’s pray she’ll be as sturdy and talented as the book character for whom she is named!

In other news, I didn’t get any money for trading in “Meg,” “Amy,” and “Beth” (;_;), but Best Buy can use them for spare parts. :/ Oh well, at least I’m recycling!

Hopefully Getting New Computer Tomorrow

After many moons of waiting (almost 10 months), I’ll hopefully be getting a new laptop tomorrow. I’ll be able to trade in my three older laptops and perhaps get a bit of the price knocked down, but even if the older systems aren’t worth anything, they won’t be junking up my house anymore, and someone else may be able to get a refurbished system for cheaper. And, if all else fails, the metals used in the computers can be recycled :/

I’m looking forward to being able to have my own system again–I’ve been using the family laptop, which does the job, but I don’t feel right saving my own files on the family hard drive. Can’t wait to have my own hard drive again instead of running my life off three flash drives! That’s the only reason y’all haven’t seen version 13 yet–I’ve been trying to minimize the saving and rewriting I’ve been doing, and anybody who’s done web design knows how much saving and editing you end up doing while designing. LOL

We’re looking at buying the Asus G75, which currently has a LOT of good reviews across the board. It only came out last month, so perhaps all my waiting has paid off. Wish me luck tomorrow–hopefully they’ll have it in stock and I can bring my new laptop baby home!

(By the way, this one’s name will be “Jo,” after the character in Little Women; “Meg” was my long-suffering college laptop, which still works, while “Amy” was my spoiled little grad school laptop, whose motherboard got burned out by an overworked graphics card. And “Beth” was my most recent, ill-fated gaming laptop which soldiered on bravely after being gravely wounded. It seemed fitting. :/ )

New Fansite Ideas

Aside from my long-talked-about Dove II fansite, I’ve come up with a couple of other fansite ideas:

– The BBC show “Waiting for God”–love this show!
– Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars–my absolute favorite video game of all time!

So that’s three fansites I need to be working on. Good luck doing that while I’m still working off of three flash drives… -_-

[Yeah, I still haven’t found a new computer I want to upgrade to yet, and nobody will get back to me about possibly refurbishing my old one (’cause I still think the old girl’s got life in her yet). *SIGH*]

But I’m excited about new fansites–it’ll be nice to have a couple of other sites to include in the network again. And I’m still considering putting up my old fansites in archive mode…would be a sweet blast from the past.

I Swear I’m Here, LOL

Though not much has changed on the ol’ domain, I swear I’m here. Real life and illness have been keeping me from working, as well as the lack of my own computer yet. :/ (I guess I’ll be going to get a new computer soonish, if only to have an internal hard drive of my own again.) Did I mention I’ve about had it with these headaches that feel like the side of my head’s been set on fire? They need to go AWAY.

…Annnnnnnnnnd I realllllly hate dialup. *shakes fist at corporations that won’t get off their butts to install fast access out here*

[/whining]

I’ve been keeping Crooked Glasses updated weekly, but that’s been the limit of what I could do most recently. My novel is being worked on, very very slowly (hard to write when I can’t think clearly), and the layouts for WMW.org are coming along well also (amid a couple of rethinking sessions and setbacks). I’ve actually got a very new style on the way–I think it’ll work better for how the domain’s been growing and changing–WMW isn’t such an infant anymore, and appears to have grown out of its baby clothes. 😛

Please continue to watch this space, as I battle the Headache Monster, the Real-Life Monster, and the Technology Monster. ^_^;

Designing Version 13 and Other Things

While the loss of a year and a half of data is staggering, I am nevertheless working on Version 13’s designs for my domain, joined fanlistings, network, and network update blog (this thingamabob right here). Let’s just say that the new designs are…markedly different from version 12, but I believe it’s different in a good way.

Also, since I lost all of the data regarding Lux Perpetua (my Dove II fansite), I’m going to have to rebuild it from scratch. ;_; That is not cool, dude. At least I hadn’t scanned in but 5 issues… *sigh* But all my essays are gone, too–I’ll have to rewrite them all, and pray I remember all the content. Double ;_; .

And lastly, on a more positive note, I looking at possibly re-uploading some of my old-as-dirt anime and gaming shrines, in a kind of archival mode. (Since the last time I dealt with any of that stuff was back in 2008, the files from my June 2010 hard drive should still include those old site files.) I’ll probably edit the content down some so my rabid fangirlism isn’t as evident, but it would be nice to at least acknowledge my roots in webdesign. Who knows, I might even give each of the sites a fresh new design along the way. (Or I might just be lazy and upload them as-is. LOL)

Hard Drive Unrecoverable. Really.

They did their best, but it was not to be. At least a year and a half of poetry, personal fiction, intensive databases hundreds of entries long, photos, and web design work gone. I am physically feeling ill over this–have had a headache and nausea ever since I got the news this morning.

I do have an older hard drive from June 2010 to hopefully pull data off of, so maybe I can rebuild using that. But I did a lot of work in the latter half of 2010 and through 2011. I don’t know if I’ll even remember how to create some of it again. I need a brick wall to bash my head against repeatedly–this is just another thing on top of all the other crap that has happened. Medical bills, plumbing repairs, more medical bills, other computer repair bills, and now this.

And I’m likely going to have to get another computer–mainly because we don’t need to throw any more money down the drain on a computer that might not last much longer anyway. Again, need brick wall.

I haz a giant sad, only mitigated by the fact that my novel is safe. Feels like suspiciously small comfort in the midst of all this.

College Knowledge Section Finished!

WOOT WOOT WOOT I NOT HAZ A LAZY ANYMORE~~~!

In other words, go check out the college knowledge section for epic wins. <3 Took me long enough! I reformatted, rewrote, and otherwise toiled over this section so that it would look better and be easier to read through. Now you can navigate through the section without ever having to return to the College Knowledge page first. ...Did I ever tell you how much I <3 PHP include files? ^o^

New Twitter Widgets and New Link Exchange!

First, a great big welcome to OhMyDarling.org, our newest link exchange here at WMW.org. Go visit Sarah’s lovely domain (the Elliot Stabler fansite is my personal recommendation, but she has plenty more to see)!

Also, as you may have noticed from visiting the main page and from the sidebar to your right, I have discovered the magic of Twitter widgets. Thus, I’ve placed widgets on Crooked Glasses, WithinMyWorld.org, this little news page, and even Skies Over Atlas (the long-forgotten Twitter account I started with, lol).

Woot for actually getting stuff done around here! (Now I just need to prod myself to finish that one last article that needs spiffying in the College Knowledge section… -_- writer’s block FAIL.) 😛

Whoo, WMW.org Is On Twitter!

After months of shuffling my feet and going back and forth about it, WMW.org is finally on Twitter, as–you guessed it–@wmworg . 😀

Also, this post is a way of testing whether WP and the WordSocial plugin play nicely together. This way, I can post to this little blog and Twitter will automatically update…I hope. *crosses fingers* Well, we shall see!

Added Joined FL Link and Sitemap Link; Also, New Link Exchange!

Updated the front page of my site with a conspicuous link to my joined FLs and my sitemap, so it’s easier to browse around. 🙂

Not many more updates to speak of today, because I’ve had some life-splitting headaches the past two days and am scheduled for a CT scan tomorrow afternoon. I hope this one will finally help us figure out what’s wrong with my head. (Well, besides the obvious :P)

Oh, and WMW.org has a new link-exchange: rigelatin.net! Wave hi 🙂 I am glad, since my .net section was looking rather bereft (one of my oldest .net link exchanges closed a few weeks back). Go and enjoy the awesome artwork Rosangela does on her sites!
