Happy 7th Birthday, WithinMyWorld.org!

Today is seven years to the day since I bought my domain name, my first (and hopefully only, given the current status of my pocketbook). In the winter of 2004, I was in the midst of college finals and desperately wanted to do something for myself, and I had been thinking for months about buying my own domain name at last.

So, on my birthday, December 8th, 2004, in between preparing for the huge whompin’ exam I had that night and eating birthday cake left over from the previous night’s party, I registered withinmyworld.org at GoDaddy for ~$10/year, and bought $4.95/month hosting over at SurpassHosting. Then I began the process of transferring all my files over from my $8.95/month Tripod account. The whole registering/hosting service thing took about 3 or 4 hours to complete; I wisely studied for my exam afterwards, and waited on changing all the files over until after the LOL-final was over.

The first site that I had on the main domain was mainly a portal and small personal-site-ish content, and its only “daughter” site was my Yu-Gi-Oh! site, now defunct. Now, 7 years later, WMW.org has grown, changed, and had many more little ones to gather under its wings. …Hard to imagine how it will have changed in 7 more years!

Happy birthday, WithinMyWorld.org, you sweet old friend. Thanks for containing my blathering all these years. May there be many more blathery years to come!

Welcome Wild-Seven.org and Blizzara.org!

Wild-Seven.org is WMW.org’s newest affiliate–welcome to a fellow site beginning with W! 😀 Ava’s domain collective is chock-full of sites to interest fans of Sailor Moon, the Final Fantasy game series, and J-pop–plus, a very full docket of upcoming sites and projects that puts mine to shame. 😛

Also, I’ve added one new link-exchange–Blizzara.org, home to more in-depth Final Fantasy tributes than you can Omnislash at. Stefi has done an amazing job of putting together sites that are content-rich and sparkly, too.

Enjoy visiting these two great sites–I know I have! 🙂 And YAY for us webdesigners sticking together 🙂

Tinkering, LJ Purge, and New Possible Projects

If you logged onto WMW.org anytime between 12:00 AM and 1:00 AM EST, you might have noticed that the navigation appeared to be bouncing around all over the place. That was me, trying to get the navigation to be a little more intuitive, and royally bungling things up in the process. -_-

BUT! I did get it fixed, and now all the little leafy navigation thingies have WORDS to go with them, all the time! WHOOPEE!

Also, since my old-as-grass LJ account is no longer being used as the update journal, I purged it of its networky updates and began again. I have no clue what I’m going to use it for, but I’ll keep it around for randoms.

I updated the network page accordingly, and even spruced up the network links all around. Now, they are more descriptive in their hover text. Woot. 😀

Lastly–check out the Projects page on this little blog for some new possibilities on the horizon…CuriousLittleBird just MIGHT be making a few more new sites in the near future! 😀 😀

Two New Link-Exchanges, and Lux Perpetua Project

Hooray! Check out Ghost-Lights.org and Reflera.org, my two new link-exchanges. (On the way to add them, I realized I didn’t even HAVE a link-exchanges page yet–that got fixed in a hurry!)

Also, in the next week, I am quite hopeful that I can upload my last upcoming site, now named Lux Perpetua, about Dove II of the comic book series Hawk & Dove.

In future updates, I’ll be referring to something called the Lux Perpetua Project, which is basically me scanning in all the best images of the lady Dove from my collection of H&D comics and uploading them. (Currently, I’ve got all of the five-issue miniseries scanned in, but it will take a VERY long time to scan in everything else. If I waited till I got ALL the comic issues done, Lux Perpetua would never be uploaded!)

New Affiliates at WMW.org and Crooked Glasses!

Welcome to my newest affiliate at WMW.org: Lady Dinobug! 😀 Her lovely domain collective Rokuro.nu is a portal to all her content on the Internet–well worth checking out. Oh, and did I mention her mad leet skills in graphic design are in evidence? 😀

In other news, I’m also hard at work adding Crooked Glasses’ first-ever affiliate–After-Hours.me! :’) Blogs grow up so fast… *sniffle* After Hours is an enjoyable and fun blog written by Chrizta, and I’ve been visiting for a while. Just had to get up the courage to ask for affiliation! 🙂

New Affy and Spiffed-Up Look, Plus Updates

First, a big announcement: WMW.org’s got a new affiliate! Raine of Ashke.net graciously accepted my request for affiliation–go check out her awesome domain (and don’t forget to bow). XD

Second: I fixed the itty-bitty-teeny-tiny-yet-still-annoying-to-my-OCD problem that I’d been having with Version 12 of WMW.org. It may not look a whole lot different, but trust me, the backend coding is much different! Suffice it to say that I can now display more than four affiliate buttons without the whole layout going batpoo crazy. 😀 HOORAY for expandability!

Third: I added my last two character pages to @Austara’s Character Files. Now, Beatalie and VIBRATE officially take their place in my pantheon of City of Heroes characters. Wootwoot!

…Kind of amazed that I was able to get all this done, after months of not being able to do squat with webdesign. Startling what living WITHOUT headaches can help you accomplish! ^o^

Thank you for taking the time to read this post, and I look forward to hearing from you!  🙂

I heart the /images/ directory

…and I especially love it because I just spent about 45 minutes making it and moving tons of stuff over into it.

Oh, yes.  7 different little folders within the /images/ directory, all to organize the hundreds of images I had just tossed into my main directory willy-nilly.  The actual moving process didn’t take all that long, but I had to make sure all my text files linked to the images properly.  THAT took a while.  Ah, debug.

So, according to my last post, I told the truth–the image-hoarding problem WAS solved by “tomorrow,” which is today now.  😀  Woot, I finally didn’t procrastinate something to death.

Random Page and Image Hoarding?

I admit it.  I hoard like crazy.  And apparently, I don’t just hoard random things in my house–I hoard digital things on this domain.

Exhibit A:  One “welcome” image from version 8 (EIGHT!!), about ten million years ago.  Why did I not get rid of it?  Who knows.  XD

Exhibit B:  6 pages that I combined into my current “webmistress” page and forgot to delete…or was afraid to delete because I didn’t know if they were still in use.  SAD.

And finally, Exhibit C:  an old old old old OLD javascript file from, I believe, version 5.  REALLY?

…  -_-  *sigh*

Just as in real life, I am hopeless at organizing digital files.  BUT!  That will change.

…Tomorrow.  XD
